Imagine you've just moved into a new apartment. Call the building manager and ask three or four questions to learn how recycling works there.
Hi. I recently moved into this apartment complex and I am calling you because I got some
questions about the recycling system in this apartment complex.
First of all, where is the recycling area? I am asking you because I’ve been looking for it for quite a long time and *I* still have no idea where it is located.
Also, is there any recycling schedule? When I was in my old apartment, I used to have designated days for every material. I wanna know if there are any.
Lastly, how do I dispose of the food waste? Do I need to purchase a separate payment card or is the food waste bill included in the monthly utility?
That’s all.

You usually take out the recyclables the day after having a party, but neighbors in your building keep complaining about it. Call the maintenance office, explain the situation, and suggest two or three ways to resolve it.
Hi, I heard some folks aren't happy with how I'm recycling. I'm not sure why, so I wanted to check in with you.
You might know, I had a party last week. My friends and I put all our trash and recycling in the right spot. I don't get why that's a problem, so could you tell me what the complaints are about?
If the issue was too much garbage at once, could we have another collection day? I can't keep trash in my place for long, it starts to smell.
And could you explain what I did wrong? I want to sort this out and avoid making the same mistake again. Thanks.

A new resident recently moved into your building, and it turns out he isn't disposing of his garbage properly — and the other residents are upset. Call him, explain what's been happening, and suggest several ways to fix the situation.
Hi, it's Eric. I'm calling to chat about recycling in our building. No complaints, just want to get things right.
First, about knives. Can you wrap them in paper and label them "knife"? It's safer for the cleaners.
Second, can you break down boxes before recycling? The recycling area isn't big enough for large boxes.
Lastly, food waste should go in its own bin, not regular trash bags. Please use the food waste card for this. Thanks.

Think back to a time recycling gave you trouble — maybe you didn't know the rules, or you put the garbage out in the wrong place. Tell me the details and what you had to do to straighten things out.
Well.. I have an interesting story. It was actually rather shocking.
I was on my way to recycle my garbage. And, I saw a new neighbor. And, he seemed a bit confused. But then, I noticed that he was trying to dispose of his knife in a plastic bag without any protection. I was super worried that somebody in the recycling area would get hurt. So, I politely told him not to throw knives like that and he followed my suggestion, fortunately. I taught him how to recycle knives properly. For example, knives have to be wrapped with newspaper and they have to be marked with the letter “Knife”.
Anyway, it was a super shocking experience because I hadn’t seen anyone recycling knives like that. If I hadn’t told him that, somebody would have been injured.
